about
As a designer I want to make people understand the world in which we live in, hopefully resulting in an increase of empathy and acceptance towards our fellow men and towards the Earth. And even more importantly, I want all species to experience fun, to let them play, to let them see that our world is a space for joyous beauty.
If I look at this world, I see a planet that is dominated by one single species. An animal that is fairly young and uncomfortable with the power which it received in a relatively short time period. Humanity has many insecurities, we hold billions of questions and cannot function well without the answers. For hundreds of years we have filled these insecurities with theisms, but now we live in a strange world where the Homo sapiens is the center of our universe. Humanism is changing our world rapidly, almost every recent year contains the developments of a historical time period. This acceleration makes us even more uncomfortable, we cannot create any conception of the future because of a complex web of science and capitalism. A Dutch saying says: ‘Een kat in het nauw maakt rare sprongen’. A cat that is being pushed in a corner will jump unpredictably. So in order to let the cat escape its claustrophobic corner, he has to understand what is happening and where he is.

I care about duality; one thing never stands on its own. You need the darkness in order to see the bright colors, but you also need the bright colors in order to see the value of darkness. You can see this in my work, because
I always combine my fantastical playfulness with the urge to find the truth, as dark as it may be. I like to communicate the research I do through color, fun, imagination and play, to show my discoveries with sincere openness.
