what. a visual research into deformation

​

why. Face deformation is fun on social media, but definitely is not in real life. Being curious on what exactly happens within this phenomenon of face deformation, I stranded in the realm of 2D in a XY-space and 3D in a XYZ-space. By looking at face deformation in an abstract way, the face becomes an object rather than something we are so familiar with.

how. In this visual research I translated the deformation of faces that happens in face-changing apps such as Snapchat or Facebook, through materials such as felt, balloons and plastics. This makes the deformation abstract and understandable.
